Carlsbad surprises Mayfield

Shanicka Green The Cavegirls played the Lady Trojans Friday night in a sloppy affair that resulted with Carlsbad pulling out the win in overtime, 51-44.

The Lady Trojans shot 48% from the free throw line, which proved to be their undoing. Mayfield also missed having their standout forward, Elena Holguin, who was required to sit out due to a transfer back to Mayfield from Sandia.

Mayfield will host Roswell, in their opener, on Saturday at 2:30. Carlsbad stays in Las Cruces to play the Bulldawgs at 2:30.
