Hobbs upsets Eldorado
The unranked Hobbs Eagles defeated the #1 Eldorado Golden Eagles, 49-47, in opening play at the La Posta Holiday Hoopla. Hobbs, down 14-31 at the half, was able to steadily chip away at Eldorado’s lead.
Sensing Hobbs’ comeback, Eldorado went into an aggressive full-court press, which Hobbs was effective in breaking. Hobbs finally regained the lead on a pair of Jayde Burnell free-throws, making it 45-44, with 3:19 left.
Eldorado was unable to capitalize at the free-throw line in the final three minutes, going 1 for 4.
Hobbs’ Summer Patterson was able to seal the deal, scoring the decisive goal with 17 seconds left.
Hobbs will face Las Cruces at 7:00 Tuesday evening.
Oñate topples El Paso Jefferson
Oñate continues its winning way, by beating El Paso Jefferson, 44-41. Cindy Burciaga led the Knights with 18 points.
Mayfield over Rio Rancho
The Mayfield Lady Trojans had little difficulty with Rio Rancho, defeating the Lady Rams 56-37 Monday evening.
Mayfield’s Tiffani Lara lead all scorers with 20 points on the night, followed by Alina Bourger’s 11 points.
Rio Rancho’s Pilar Saiz lead the Lady Rams with eight points. Mayfield will face Oñate in a District 3-5A showdown Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 PM
Las Cruces holds Cleveland back
The Bulldawgs put on a defensive show, holding Cleveland’s Sara Hattis to 12 points, beating the Storm 59-36.
