Rio Grande 67, Hope Christian 61
Prolific Rio Grande guard Bernadette Sanchez accounted for nearly 50% of the Lady Raven’s scoring: 32 points, including three 3-pointers. Monique Macias and Jocelyn Gamboa performances were not too shabby either, with 10 and 14 points, respectively.
Hope’s Christa Lloyd helped the Lady Huskies stay in the game with 17 on the night, with 9 points coming off 3-pointers.
Next up for R.G.: the Las Cruces Bulldawgs on Friday in Las Cruces. I’m not sure how competitive a game this will be, especially in the paint, but the match-up at the guard positions (Sanchez/Macias on Andrea Aragon) will definitely be worth catching.
Valley 75, Los Lunas 45
As mentioned before, Valley didn’t have too much of a problem with Los Lunas. The Lady Vikings played much of their bench, with pretty much every player racking up a point or two. Angel Reyes led all scorers with 14 points. Valley hosts Oñate on Friday and Mayfield on Saturday.
First year head coach Shane Bell and the Lady Tigers are struggling right now, but that’s to be expected with a new coach and some of the more experienced players having to learn a new system. As I understand it, Coach Bell is a quality coach and is up to the task of turning Los Lunas around.
