Scores from last night
Cibola 63, La Cueva 57
The Lady Cougars handed the Lady Bears their first loss in eight games, and do it in La Cueva’s house.
Looks like Cibola got a little more production off their bench, with Edwina Peele contributing 13 points to Amber Battles’ 19, Korina Chapman’s 13 and Elyse Brewster’s 12–every little bit helps. Just as important, Chapman was the only Cougar to foul out.
La Cueva’s Jamie Parker lead all scorers, including two treys, followed by Erika Baca’s 13 and Amy Kelly’s 9.
Lori Stephenson and company face Manzano next Thursday, and while the Lady Monarchs sit at 9-2, there are maybe only one or quality wins under their belts.
Next up for the Bears: #1 Eldorado on Tuesday.
Other observations…
In the 52-2 Logan shut-out of House, House’s only points came off free-throws–one in the third and one in the fourth…Magdalena (9-0) has beat their opponents by an average of 35 points on the season, many of them Class AA teams

Games to watch
Las Cruces hosts Rio Grande @7:00
From a mile-high view, this may not look to be the best game on the schedule.
What you will see is some of the best guards in the state playing each other. Las Cruces point guard Andrea Aragon, fresh off winning the Hoop-La and earning the tourney MVP, will be facing the Class 5A scoring leaders Bernadette Sanchez, and Monique Macias. Sanchez is averaging an incredible 25.6 PPG, with Macias following at 17.5 PPG. Macias is also tied at third in rebounding with 8.o RPG.
The Rio Grande Achilles’ heel looks to be under the boards. Center Olivia Legarda is getting 5.5 rebounds per game, second to Macias. Cruces plays more of a balanced game; I think Las Cruces posts Jade Brown, Devon Mulheron and Sharayah Newton will be too much for the Ravens.
