Congrats to Leala Longmire for signing with Western New Mexico University, in picturesque Silver City, NM.
Longmire spent her prep days at Hope Christian, where the Lady Huskies were a perennial contender for the blue trophy during her tenure. The 6′ 1″ center helped lead Hope Christian to the 2013 3A championship game, where they fell to Lovington, 58-51. Leala averaged 12 PPG and 12 RPG while earning First Team-All District and All-State honors. She was also a 2013 participant of the BTH showcase.
Lead by head coach, Rusty Kennedy, the Lady Mustangs compiled a 5-21 (4-18) record for 2012-13.
“I am excited to add Leala to our program, she brings a high skill level, a winning pedigree, and outstanding size and length,” Kennedy said. “I think she is a fantastic fit for our program both on and off the court and I look forward to watching her develop and help us turn this program around in the next couple of years.”
To his credit, Kennedy has recruited heavily from the New Mexico/El Paso, TX area, with signings that include Kenzie Rinehart (Deming), Taj Kirah Wallace (EP Irvin), Bobbi Bullitt (EP Chapin), and Tessa Jones (Hot Springs).
Good luck, Leala, we look forward to seeing you succeed at Western!
